A man serving a four-to-10-year sentence at Benner Township state prison died on Saturday, according to a prison official.

Keith Levan, 40, was found unresponsive in his cell and was pronounced dead by emergency medical service personnel following consultation with Mount Nittany Medical Center, prison superintendent Bradley M. Booher said in a news release on Monday.

Facility staff performed life-saving measures until EMS arrived.

State police are investigating the death, in accordance with state policy.

Levan was serving a prison sentence for failure to comply with registration requirements for sexual offenders on a conviction in Columbia County. He was charged in 2021 after failing to update his address and show up for a Megan’s Law appointment with state police, NorthCentralPA.com reported at the time.

He had been incarcerated at Benner Township since Feb. 3, after being transferred from Houtzdale state prison.
